Sanctions reporting – updated prescribed persons for whistleblowing

FCA launches campaign to encourage individuals to report wrongdoing

On 14 May 2025, the Public Interest Disclosure (Prescribed Persons) (Amendment) Order 2025 was laid before Parliament, introducing key changes to strengthen the enforcement of UK sanctions.

Effective from 26 June 2025, the amendments:

  • Add the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Secretary of State for Transport, and the Treasury as prescribed persons for whistleblowing
  • Expand the types of sanctions-related disclosures that qualify for employment protections
  • Cover financial, transport, and certain trade sanctions

These changes aim to enhance whistleblower protections and support the UK’s broader sanctions framework.
